TRB Lightweight Structures has made a composite under-vehicle protection plate that it says can improve impact absorption while decreasing weight.
The panels are made with toughened TRB resin, using a high volume manufacturing process, with a sandwich construction that layers material to provide varying impact absorption strengths depending on location, the company said.
According to TRB, testing has shown impact absorption rates that are typically doubled compared with best-in-class steel solutions, while halving the weight. The plates can be painted although, unlike steel, paint is not required for corrosion protection. The plates have a low weight construction that can simplify installation and replacement.
