BASF finalizes MDI plant expansion

BASF has begun the third and final phase of the expansion of its methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) plant in Geismar, Louisiana, USA.

Plans are to increase production capacity to approximately 600,000 metric tons per year by 2025.

The investment for this final expansion phase, which will take place from 2022 to 2025, amounts to US$780 million, making the total cost around US$1 billion, the company said.

MDI is used in the production of polyurethanes for a range of applications, including the manufacture of rigid polyurethane foams.
