The Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) Cymru in Broughton, Wales, has marked its first anniversary.
The center, which is funded by £20 million from the Welsh government and is managed by the University of Sheffield, focuses on advanced manufacturing sectors including aerospace, automotive, nuclear and food. This includes Airbus’ Wing of Tomorrow program which focuses on aircraft wing research. In 2021, the company will manufacture a 17 m wing box demonstrator at AMRC.
According to the University, the new facility could increase value to the Welsh economy by as much as £4 billion over the next 20 years.
‘I look forward to exciting developments here in the months and years to come which will help manufacturing recover from the significant effects of the pandemic,’ said minister for economy and North Wales, Ken Skates.
