ACMA and Manufacturing Institute partner to address US skills gap

A Manufacturing Institute video: International Leaders Discuss Public Policy, Talent & Innovation.

The two organisations will work to provide and implement solutions in an effort to fill the talent pool and close the skills gap, such as the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM)-Endorsed Manufacturing Skills Certification System.

The Skills Certification System is being used to integrate nationally portable, industry-recognised credentials into high school, community college and university programmes of study to build the US’ technical workforce.

“Manufacturers’ business success is tied directly to the innovation capacity of their skilled workforce,” says Jennifer McNelly, president, The Manufacturing Institute.

“The Skills Certification System helps address the skills gap directly affecting the talent pipeline for manufacturers. ACMA has taken on these challenges, and we are pleased to welcome AMCA as a new partner in our efforts to address the shortage of skilled workers in the United States.”

ACMA's Certified Composites Technician programme

The Certified Composites Technician programme was created by ACMA in 1999 in response to the need for uniform training and technical skills.

“The Certified Composites Technician (CCT) programme benefits companies by training the kind of forward-looking workforce that’s key to increased productivity and lower costs,” says ACMA President, Tom Dobbins. “It benefits employees by documenting their professional expertise and enhancing their career opportunities."

"While demand for skilled composites technicians has always been strong, we anticipate the expanded use of composites in many key market areas including high performance, automotive, infrastructure, construction and green, coupled with this new partnership with the Manufacturing Institute will ramp up the demand for CCT even more.”
