Day 2 at JEC Europe 2012

My schedule today was full, but here’s a brief review of some of the highlights …

In a press conference this morning, Mr Braj Binani, Chairman of Binani Industries Ltd, India, and Hugues Jacquemin, CEO of 3B, Belgium, outlined the objectives for the combined glass fibre business formed following Binani’s acquisition of 3B just six weeks ago. 3B also launched three new products in its key strategic markets – wind energy; thermoplastics; and speciality products. In other news:

  • 3A Composites introduced its new sealing technology for its Airex and Baltek core materials, which significantly reduces resin uptake, and lowers costs, for infused sandwich structures;
  • Gurit announced enhancements to its Renuvo UV curing wind turbine blade repair system, and the availability of new smaller, lower cost UV lamps which make it much easier to use, plus Velinox, a new prepreg system for wind blade applications which can be stored at ambient temperatures;
  • US based CDI highlighted its prepreg machine range, from units for small companies which offer significant cost savings, to large, bespoke machines for bigger players, and its TIP program designed to help companies new to prepreg set up and manufacture their own product quickly and easily (see CDI – prepreg technology partner);
  • SCIGRIP was showcasing its new methacrylate adhesives and expanded capabilities in Europe; and
  • the day was rounded off with a reception at Gerber Technology/Virtek, showcasing their automated cutting and laser templating systems.
