FRP Equipment expands fibreglass recycling line

01 April 2009

FRP Equipment Inc, a division of fibreglass producer and glass fibre recycling machinery manufacturer Seawolf Design, has expanded its line to include three more machines for recycling fibreglass.

FRP Equipment has added 36 in (91.44 cm), 48 in (121.92 cm) and 60 in (152.40 cm) units to its existing line of grinders to accommodate larger pieces and different composites for recycling. The expansion could enable the processing of up to 4,000 lbs (1,818.18 kg) of recyclable fibreglass composites per hour.

The process allows for the extraction of fibres without degrading their integrity. Once the fibres are reclaimed, the material can be re-introduced into the resin stream. According to FRP Equipment, the resulting product often has enhanced physical properties and the overall process reduces styrene emissions and eliminates the need for rollout. This reduces material costs, and waste or disposal costs.

The fibres recovered from fibreglass laminations can be re-used in spray up, resin transfer moulding (RTM), pultrusion, bulk moulding compound (BMC) and cold moulding as well as filament winding and centrifugal casting.

Seawolf Design is based in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, USA.
