Hexion German plant produces epoxy resins for wind market

12 April 2010

Hexion Specialty Chemicals Inc has opened its new epoxy resin plant in Esslingen, Germany. It produces epoxy resins and bonding pastes used in the manufacture of large composite wind turbine blades.

Hexion is committed to the wind energy market and to our customers, and investing in this facility is a very tangible sign of that commitment,” said Joseph P. Bevilaqua, Hexion’s President, Epoxy & Phenolic Resins Division, during the dedication ceremony. “This facility will enable us to serve the needs of our customers now and in the years to come.”

The 10 000 m2 plant includes blending operations and associated warehousing, as well as an applications laboratory and offices. It replaces a smaller Hexion facility in nearby Stuttgart. The employees from the Stuttgart site have transferred to Esslingen.

The Esslingen plant produces speciality epoxy resins and bonding pastes used in the manufacture of large-scale composite wind turbine blades, as well as epoxy resins used in composites for marine, automotive, mass transit and other applications.

Based in Columbus, Ohio, USA, Hexion Specialty Chemicals serves the global wood and industrial markets through thermoset technologies, speciality products and technical support for customers in a range of industries. Hexion Specialty Chemicals is controlled by an affiliate of Apollo Management, L.P.
