PPG's HYBON glass fibre certified for wind turbine applications

PPG Industries has announced the certification of its HYBON glass fibre roving products for wind turbine blades by Germanischer Lloyd (GL), an international certification body in the wind energy industry.

PPG reports that the certification includes its HYBON 2001, 2002, 2006 and high-performance 2026 glass fibre rovings, and applies to products manufactured at all five PPG Fiber Glass locations – three in the USA; one in Wigan, UK; and one in Zibo, Shandong Province, China (a joint venture between PPG and Sinoma Jinjing Fiber Glass Co Ltd).

According to Cheryl Richards, PPG global market manager, wind energy, HYBON glass fibre rovings offer wind turbine blade producers the ability to engineer higher-performing products using a variety of resins, including vinyl ester.

Pittsburgh, USA, based PPG (NYSE: PPG) is a global supplier of paints, coatings, optical products, speciality materials, chemicals, glass and fibre glass.
