Toray invests in European composites manufacturer

02 January 2009

Japanese carbon fibre producer Toray Industries Inc is investing in ACE Advanced Composite Engineering GmbH, a German developer of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) parts for cars and trucks.

By establishing development and production facilities in Europe, where CFRP adoption in the automotive sector is well developed, Toray aims to expand its automotive CFRP business.

Toray's 21% equity investment in ACE is aimed at integrating ACE’s technologies with Toray’s proprietary resin transfer moulding (RTM) technology, to upgrade the moulding technology and shorten its development period.

Toray is planning to expand its sales of CFRP for automotive applications to approximately 50 billion Yen by around 2015.
