Phenolic prepregs bolster vehicle armour

12 December 2008

Advanced Composites Group will supply glass phenolic prepreg materials for a UK Ministry of Defence project bolstering vehicle armour and improving protection for British troops.

Under a £81 million contract from the Ministry of Defence (MOD), NP Aerospace of Coventry, UK, will transform 151 Cougar vehicles from Force Protection Inc in the USA, into protected military vehicles called Ridgebacks. NP Aerospace will use ACG’s high performance glass phenolic prepreg material to bolster existing vehicle armour and provide improved protection for the occupants and the systems in the vehicles.

The phenolic prepreg is fairly new to ACG’s ballistics product range. It was incorporated into the portfolio following the acquisition of George Cole Technologies Ltd (Primco) by ACG’s parent company, Umeco, at the end of 2008. ACG is based in Heanor, UK.
