Ahlstrom to reduce staffing levels at Karhula, Finland, plant

11 August 2009

Following personnel negotiations started in June, Ahlstrom has decided on temporary layoffs of staff at its Karhula plant in Finland. These are to adapt production volumes of speciality reinforcements and glass fibre tissue to match demand.

The temporary layoffs at the Karhula plant, part of the Ahlstrom's Glass & Industrial Nonwovens business, will be carried out during the latter part of the year. They concern roughly 260 employees. Approximately 200 of them are blue-collar staff and approximately 60 white-collar staff. The duration of the layoffs is estimated to be 90 days, at the most.

Ahlstrom says these actions will not affect the delivery and service level of the plant.

The Karhula plant currently employs approximately 360 people, of which roughly 260 are blue-collar and roughly 100 are white-collar employees.
