GKN Aerospace plans to establish a new assembly facility in Orangeburg, South Carolina, USA, to perform assembly operations for the HondaJet business aircraft.
Bombardier throws down the gauntlet with CSeries airliner
Bombardier Aerospace says its CSeries will deliver a 20% fuel burn advantage, 15% lower operating costs and 25% lower maintenance costs compared to other aircraft in its class. The aircraft's low-weight airframe features extensive use of advanced structural materials, including composites in the wing, empennage, nacelle and rear fuselage. We report on the project's progress so far.
Composites in construction advance in new directions
The growing demand for everything green to promote sustainability is being felt increasingly in the building and construction industry. The internationally recognised LEED initiative of the US Green Building Council promotes alternative, energy-efficient materials, which is good for composites. So are the building codes and standards being written for FRP materials.
