Audi and Voith form composites partnership
German car maker Audi AG and industrial group Voith GmbH have signed a letter of intent regarding a development partnership to promote industrialisation of fibre reinforced plastic composites.
GKN Aerospace and SLCR develop laser repair process for composites
GKN Aerospace and SLCR Lasertechnik GmbH (SLCR) have signed an agreement to develop an automated laser process designed to provide better, cheaper and faster repair of composite aircraft structures.
Airbus takes on Boeing with composite A350 XWB
When Airbus recently launched its A350 XWB (extra widebody) competitor to Boeing's B787 Dreamliner, it indicated that the airframe will be 52% reinforced plastic composite – similar to the B787's 50%. The new airliner will be produced in three sizes, the largest of which can compete with the Boeing B777 twin-aisle widebody. George Marsh reports.
