The wind turbine will be tested with the aim to certify the wind turbine for use in the United States. The testing includes measuring power performance, power quality, noise and system frequency of the wind turbines with a 300 ft tall tower and 160 ft long blades.

Fort Felker, Director at the National Wind Technology Center, says: “These types of collaborations demonstrate a commitment to crucial technology development and the public-private partnerships that will be necessary to ensure the continued momentum of the wind power industry.”

Following the testing and analysis of the Eco 100 wind turbine, NREL and Alstom will continue to pursue research and development in advanced technology areas such as controls and offshore wind energy.
