Creative Pultrusions to supply composite distribution poles to Los Angeles

11 August 2010

Creative Pultrusions Inc has won a contract to supply composite distribution poles to the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP). The US$2.97 million contract is for one year with two optional one-year periods.

“We are pleased to once again be partnering with DWP in supplying fibreglass distribution poles to the Department,” says Bob Guilliams, Technical Sales Manager for Creative Pultrusions Inc’s Powertrusion Products Utility Division. “Southern California, in general, and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, in particular, present a unique set of challenges for overhead distribution structures, including diverse temperatures, lightning, fire, corrosive coastal, and rugged and inaccessible terrain.”

The pultruded composite poles are light weight and non-conductive, making their installation and maintenance easier and safer.

LADWP is the largest municipal utility in the USA, serving over 4 million residents. It maintains more than 300 000 power poles, more than 100 000 overhead transformers, and more than 6000 miles of overhead distribution lines.

Creative Pultrusions, a pultruder headquartered in Alum Bank, Pennsylvania, USA, was acquired by UK based Hill & Smith Holdings plc in September 2008.
