AgustaWestland unveils AW169 helicopter

27 July 2010

AgustaWestland says that its new AW169 multi-purpose helicopter benefits from extensive use of composites.

The AW169 was unveiled at the 2010 Farnborough International Airshow.

According to AgustaWestland, the helicopter incorporates several new technology features – a new advanced aerodynamic rotor design,  extensive use of composites, advanced airframe aerodynamics, and next generation navigation avionics.

The AW169 can carry two pilots and up to 8-10 passengers, or alternatively two stretchers, in the large main cabin accessible via two large sliding cabin doors.

The 4.5 tonne class AW169 helicopter is designed for a variety of uses, including emergency medical services, search and rescue missions, law enforcement, and passenger and offshore transport. According to customer requirements, the helicopter can be customised with a wide range of equipment, including weather radar, rescue hoist, cargo hook, search light and a medical interior.

AgustaWestland forecasts a potential market for almost 1000 AW169 helicopters over approximately 20 years.

AgustaWestland is owned by Italy’s Finmeccanica.
