B787 production resumes

12 February 2009

The production of Boeing's composites-intensive B787 has resumed with the joining of the fifth aircraft designated for flight test.

The ZA005 aircraft is the first B787 to be powered with General ElectricGEnx engines and the major assemblies were loaded in final body join in January with the fuselage and wing joins occurring simultaneously.

Five of the six B787 aircraft designated for flight test are now in varying stages of production. The first flight-test aircraft, ZA001, has seen the resuming of production testing and is set for its first flight in the second quarter of 2009.
