Toho Tenax Europe to supply carbon fibre for Bombardier CSeries aircraft

29 June 2010

Toho Tenax Europe GmbH has won a contract to supply carbon fibre material for major primary and secondary composite structures on Bombardier’s new CSeries aircraft programme. Toho Tenax expects the contract to be worth around €130 million over the next 10 years.

Toho Tenax will be supplying a variety of carbon fibre types for both dry textile and prepreg use on the CSeries programme.

According to Toho Tenax, Bombardier Aerospace has the company's carbon fibre materials to support this aircraft programme because the latest Tenax® carbon fibre materials meet the aircraft’s advanced design requirements and support Bombardier’s newly developed manufacturing processes.

The Bombardier CSeries aircraft targets the 100- to 149-seat class and is scheduled to enter service in 2013. The aircraft features a composite wing.

Toho Tenax is the core company of the Teijin Group's carbon fibres business. The Toho Tenax Group is a leading carbon fibre manufacturer worldwide with an annual production capacity of 13 500 tons in Japan, Germany and USA. Toho Tenax Europe GmbH is an affiliate with production capacities for Tenax® carbon fibres. It is located in Germany and responsible for the European market.
