The company
AGY
is a young company with a long and proud heritage. Founded
in 1998 and renamed in 2004, AGY is today an independent
company with a long history of service to the glassfiber
reinforcements and yarns markets. The business was established
decades ago by Owens Corning and served for many years as
the pioneer in several industries and markets. Throughout
its history and transition to independence, AGY has maintained
a commitment to providing the best quality, highest performing
glassfiber reinforcements and yarns.
The position
The
Business Development Manager (BDM) will report to the Director,
Global Business Development based in AGY World Headquarters
Aiken SC. This individual has one of the most important
and visible roles in AGY as they spearhead business development,
closing key application developments around the world. The
BDM is accountable for AGY application development results
to ensure maximum new business growth.
PRINCIPAL
ACCOUNTABILITIES
> Promote AGY philosophy as a 'materials solutions'
company to end users and channel partners.
> Accountable for achieving application development
pipeline annual budget.
> Develop compelling and persuasive business cases to
drive new application development opportunities to closure.
> Work with the AGY product managers and the technology
group to:
> Understand opportunities in current and potential
markets down to the application level.
> Understand and characterize markets and application
value chains and capitalize on “value opportunities”
and potential downstream strategic relationships and
activities.
> Through the support of the AGY sales team create,
support and drive application development with AGY direct
customer base.
> Contribute to knowledge base of AGY competitive intelligence.
> Develop and drive a budgeted amount of new AGY business
by
> Key OEM penetration and target development.
> New product and process introduction.
> Maintain and grow a budgeted pipeline of target applications.
> Track and communicate progress, issues, and resources
as needed.
The candidate
The successful candidate will possess a balance
of skills. The primary requirement is a proven track
record in application development to successful closure.
The individual should have a background in 'high performance
materials' and a diverse experience base from among
these responsibilities: sales, market development, and/or
application development. A background in composite materials
is strongly desired. A successful business development
manager with AGY will exhibit most of the following
attributes:

Strong technical knowledge or aptitude for high performance
materials, especially composite technology
Required
skills, knowledge and experience
> Proven experience in managing and growing business.
> Excellent personal organization skills; an ability to
manage concurrent tasks and perform against multiple
deadlines.
> Matrix leadership skills to guide and focus resources
on actions and results.
> Successful track record of high performance materials
application development, preferably with a composites
business.
> Proven ability to identify new opportunities, develop
creative strategies and drive results.
> Industry application development experience a must.
> Must be a self-starter, taking initiative to drive AGY
new business development.
> Must be comfortable traveling globally on a regular
basis with an approximate travel/office ratio of 60/40.
> Ten years experience in a highly complex business with
a raw material based technical product line, preferably
in composite materials.
> Strong marketing and technical analytical skills with
the ability to make new business development decisions
and persuasive recommendations.
Educational
requirements
> 4-year college degree
with a BS in a technical field preferred. An MBA is a
strong plus.
> Candidates
should have a global business perspective, and relevant
global experience will be considered a plus.
> They should
possess a passionate drive to achiev e success in a global,
cross-functional, team-based environment.
