Suzlon announces blade retrofit for S88 turbines
INDIAN WIND turbine maker Suzlon Energy Ltd has announced a retrofit programme to resolve blade cracking issues associated with some of its S88 turbines in the USA.
The retrofit programme involves the structural strengthening of 1251 (417 sets) blades on the 2.1 MW turbines. 930 of the blades are already installed while the remaining blades are in transit or inventory.
The total estimated cost of the retrofit programme is estimated at INR100 crores (US$25 million).
Suzlon says the retrofit programme will be carried out by maintaining a rolling stock of temporary replacement blades, to minimise the downtime for operational turbines, and will be completed over a period of six months.
