HOBAS pipes protect water supply

HOBAS® CC-GRP (centrifugally cast glass reinforced plastic) Waterline® pipes are being used in Unterröblingen, Germany, by water supplier MIDEWA for transporting drinking water. The pipes run through an old industrial area and replace a 1.5 km long steel pipeline that was laid in the 1970s.

HOBAS says that the GRP pipes were chosen as a result of their ability to withstand highly corrosive soil and their water-tight characteristics, which will ensure a clean water supply. They are supplied in 6 m lengths, have sealing caps on each end to keep the inside clean and are coloured blue to distinguish them from other product lines such as the SewerLine® and BridgeLine®.

Work on the pipeline is being completed in three construction phases, the first of which was completed in May 2006. HOBAS claims that the pipes are easy to install because they are lightweight and can be quickly joined by hand with their push-to-fit Sealtight® Couplings, pre-mounted at one end of each pipe.
