Adhesive cost modelling software
introduced
LORD Corp is introducing cost modelling
software for customers to assess the process costs of using
structural adhesives. This will help customers decide if structural
adhesives are a cost efficient alternative to welded joints
and metal fasteners.
The model has been six years in the making and is based on
Lord’s experience of adhesive use in the transportation
industries. The parameters are based on accepted industry
norms and actual time studies but can be customised to different
manufacturing situations. An example would be the time taken
to weld a joint – the model estimates this but if a
user has the actual time taken in their organisation, they
can input it into the model. An analysis is then produced,
designed to show whether switching to adhesives would save
time and money.
According to the company, the use of adhesives frequently
has economic and product performance benefits, for example
improved resistance to corrosion. It believes that the new
tool will allow users to evaluate whether adhesives could
effectively be integrated into their production and manufacturing
processes.
Lord, headquartered in Cary, North Carolina, USA, produces
speciality structural adhesives, polyurethane coatings and
electronic, vibration and noise control solutions.
