Goodrich wins General Dynamics contract

GOODRICH CORP is to supply lightweight composite towed array fairings (TAF) for the Virginia Class (SSN-774) nuclear fast attack submarine, manufactured by General Dynamics Electric Boat Corp.

“This award represents a significant addition to the increasing number of composite components we provide for the Virginia Class Submarine,” says Ed Hart, president of Goorich’s Engineered Polymer Products division. “With increased emphasis on lightweight, low maintenance composite structures, we are fulfilling an integral role in helping the US Navy reduce the total operating cost of their ships.”

The fairing reduces drag on the submarine by allowing a smooth laminar flow of water over its hydro-dynamic surface. The TAFs will be manufactured and tested in Jacksonville, Florida, by Goodrich’s Engineered Polymer Products Division.

Goodrich Engineered Polymer Products develops, manufactures, tests and services acoustic and structural composite products for military and commercial applications.
