High Modulus is top of the yachts
HIGH MODULUS structural engineering and composite materials have helped three boats gain industry awards.
The Seawind 1160, a 38 ft sailing catamaran won Best Sailboat at the Annual Newport International Boat Show in Rhode Island, USA, and has previously been crowned Australian Sailboat of the Year. Seawind Catamarans, based in Australia, used High Modulus’ B3 SmartPac to build the cat. B3 SmartPac is described as ‘a construction solution developed by High Modulus to bring advanced engineering optimisation to boat building’. The boat has also been nominated for Cruising World magazine’s Boat of the Year and SAIL magazine’s Top Boat of the Year.
Adele, a 174 ft ketch, won in the Best Sailboat category in the International Superyacht Society Design Awards at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The rig of the boat was built by Marten Spars, using composite parts engineered by High Modulus. The main and mizzen masts are constructed with carbon fibre, as are both booms. The ketch was designed by Hoek Naval Architects and built at Vitters Shipyard in the Netherlands.
The third boat to win an award was Ad Lib, a 131 ft power yacht designed by Dubois Yachts and built by Alloy Yachts in New Zealand. It won Best Powerboat in the International Superyacht Society Design Awards. The composite mast/flybridge bimini structure of the yacht was engineered by High Modulus and built by Austral Yachts. The bimini has six windows and is 6.8 m by 6 m. Two posts support it at the front and two aluminium legs are bolted to its sides. A 4.3 m composite ‘wing’ structure is incorporated into it and the upper radar, communications domes and navigation light masts are attached to this structure.
