Gurit reports higher sales in first quarter
FIRST QUARTER sales for Gurit, headquartered in Wattwil, Switzerland, grew by 28% compared to the same period of 2006.
The company’s wind energy business saw the highest increase in sales with a growth of 45% on the previous year’s quarter to CHF61 million. Sales to transportation customers decreased by 6% to CHF16 million during the first three months of 2007. Gurit attributes this decline to a lower order intake for materials used in the construction of aircraft interiors. It is expected to return to higher growth as soon as the build rates of the new A380 Airbus airplane pick up.
The marine, sport and civil engineering markets produced sales of CHF33 million, representing an increase of 12%. After a very mild winter with depressed sales in the winter sports markets, this increase was mainly achieved, according to the company, with bespoke material systems targeting one-off as well as series production boat builders.
