Gurit anticipates first half sales increase
GURIT IS anticipating a 19% sales increase in the first half-year 2007 to CHF 223 million and CHF 475 million in sales for the full year 2007, based on preliminary figures.
The Switzerland-based composites manufacturer reports an increase of 39% to CHF 122 million in sales to the wind energy market compared with the first-half of 2006. Sales to transportation applications declined by 2.2% to CHF 31 million. Shipments to customers in the marine, sport and civil engineering markets were CHF 62 million in the first half of 2007, a reduction of 3.3% on the previous year’s first half figures. The company attributes this decline to the slow winter sport business and the transfer of the ski and safety goggles foil business to the joint venture GuMa. The late start of production at a prepreg production unit in Canada in addition to not capitalised expansion costs will lead to total one-off costs of around CHF 9 million during the first half-year.
Plans to set-up a production site in China are reportedly on schedule as are additional capacity increases in Spain, Switzerland and Canada.
