Plexus adhesives gain Greenguard certification

THE GREENGUARD Environmental Institute has certified twenty-four Plexus industrial and surfacing adhesives as low-emissions products suitable for indoor environments. The standard means that Plexus Adhesives meet the Institute’s stringent emission requirements for health, irritation and odour concerns.

Certification is based primarily on an adhesive’s emissions at 168 hours (7 days) after unpackaging. During that period, an independent laboratory measures air sample concentrations of formaldehyde, 4-phenylcyclohexene, styrene, and a variety of volatile organic compounds, six times under strictly controlled testing protocols in dynamic environmental chambers that produce airflow patterns resembling those of a home or office.

“We work very hard to design and produce adhesives with low emissions, making them as safe as possible for manufacturers, for users of products assembled with them, and for the environment,” says Ken Lambert, general manager of ITW Plexus.
