Halogen-free PBTs launched
POLYONE CORP, headquartered in Avon Lake, Ohio, USA, has added halogen-free alternatives to its Bergadur ™ polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) range of flame-retardants.
The range of compounds includes glass-reinforced Bergadur grades such as PB40 G10 HU and PB400 G30 U. Polyester compounds are used in the electrical appliance market as they have the desirable dimension stability, tolerance for a high continuous service temperature, low thermal conductivity and good chemical resistance.
There is an increasing demand for halogen-free polymers as a result of the introduction of the new Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive and the environmental concerns surrounding the use of brominated flame-retardant polymer systems.
