Better release for closed moulders

A SEMI-PERMANENT mould release developed specifically for closed moulding and other difficult release situations is being introduced by Axel Plastics Research Laboratories, USA. The company reports that XTEND®19CMS enabled one customer to mould 40% more parts before reapplying release.

XTEND19CMS is the first product in AXEL’s new line of closed moulding releases, which are designed to cure more quickly and completely, providing a tougher release interface that resists entrapment of moulding debris.

“Our goal was to deter the onerous styrene and monomer buildup that typically occurs on closed moulds after several moulding cycles and commonly creates a rough textured surface, particularly on ‘B’ sides of composite tooling,” explains Nancy Teufel, global product manager for Axel.

19CMS can be employed for a variety of processes including rotational casting, compression moulding, resin transfer moulding (RTM), as well as open moulding of non-gel-coated or primer gel-coated parts. The solvent-based mould release can be applied by spraying or wiping on at ambient temperatures or up to 72ºC (160ºF).
