Amitech completes São Paulo expansion
AMITECH, A Brazilian producer of fibre reinforced polyester (FRP) pipes, has completed the expansion of its plant in Ipeúna city in São Paulo. The company’s capacity has been increased to 330 km a year of pipelines with diameters up to 3000 mm.
The US$9 million investment went mainly into a Flowtite machine developed by Amiantit, a Saudi company controlling 30% of Amitech. The Flowtite technology enables Amitech to produce 36 m/h of FRP pipes in sections up to 14 m long.
The ability to increase the diameter of its pipes gives Amitech a better position in markets requiring large fluid outputs such as small hydroelectric plants. Due to agreements signed with two small hydroelectric plants at the end of 2007, Amitech’s new capacity is fully booked for the next three months. Continuous funding from the Brazilian Economic Acceleration Program (PAC) could also help fill up the increased capacity.
Amitech will keep its centrifugal casting technology, which is capable of producing 18 m/h of pipes up to 1200 mm, to keep production flexibility. In addition to pipes for the hydroelectric industry, the company produces pipes for basic sanitation and irrigation projects.
