Guide identifies energy saving techniques
A‘BEST Practice Guide for Low Energy Plastics Processing’ has been written by Reduced Energy Consumption in Plastics Engineering (RECIPE), a European project to help the plastics processing industry reduce its energy consumption. The guide will help companies plan and implement an energy efficient plastics processing programme.
The introductory section looks at energy usage and provides an overview of renewable energy sources. Processes covered in the guide include composites injection moulding, extrusion, blow moulding, rotational moulding, thermoforming, and compression moulding. Advice and techniques are given in each chapter, along with case studies and action points.
“The Best Practice Guide is an important publication for the RECIPE project,” says Suzanne Wilkinson, RECIPE project coordinator. “It has been designed for use by anyone and can help to identify areas where energy and cost savings can be made most easily. We urge all plastics processors to examine their current energy management practices and get involved in the RECIPE project.”
Free copies of the guide can be downloaded from the RECIPE website.
