SGL and Benteler form automotive venture

GERMAN COMPANIES SGL Carbon Group, a manufacturer of carbon fibre with headquarters in Wiesbaden, and automotive component supplier Benteler Automobiltechnik of Paderborn, have signed a letter of intent to set up a joint venture for the development and manufacture of automotive components made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP).

The 50/50 joint venture will be named Benteler-SGL-Automotive Composite GmbH and will be based in Paderborn. It will initially focus on developing CFRP components such as B-columns, crash boxes, bumpers, and axles. In the future, the plan is to start series production of these products.

SGL will be the exclusive supplier of carbon fibre composites to the joint venture. Benteler Automotive, a division of the family-owned Benteler Group, will contribute its product development and process skills and its experience in the automotive market.
